A Little About How I Got Here

I grew up in a Catholic family and, from the start, had trouble buying into their teachings.  Not an easy thing to resist when you are little.  As soon as I could, I stopped attending and began to explore other religions.  Eventually that spread to other approaches to spirituality.

The summer I started Graduate School (Naropa University) one of the few offerings in my program (Transpersonal Psychology) was the Psychology of Shamanism.  It sounded intriguing, so I signed up.  It turned out to be mostly about the shamanic technique of journeying.  It was taught by a Clinical Psychologist who had been studying for years with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies (developed by Michael Harner who studied shamanic practices around the world, took out their cultural components and taught the basic techniques).  During the class, I began to remember being little,  hearing drumming coming from inside trees and going into the trees.  When I mentioned this to the instructor, he invited me to be part of a weekly group that practiced journeying.

Journeying is the technique that one uses to visit the spirit realms (also called non-ordinary reality) for the purpose of receiving information or doing healing work.  Working with Spirit was how I learned to do shamanic work.  Along the way, I also took classes with FSS and had the opportunity to study with several world-renowned shamans.

Direct contact with Spirit was the piece that I was missing as a child.  Direct experience – WOW!   While that has continued to be my path, I have also done my own human healing work – many years’ worth.  It has taken on many forms, and I have incorporated a lot of those into my work with others.  I dare say I pretty well understand the human healing/growth process.

Twenty plus years ago, I was introduced to Healing Touch by its founder Janet Mentgen and began taking classes.  Being the crazy person that I am, I decided to purse certification in TYLEM as well as Healing Touch.  It took me about three years, and I finally became both a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner and a Certified Specialist in Energy Medicine.  As the years passed and I developed more insight into energy, how it works and how to use it, I dropped the certifications.

I continue to explore myself.  Who am I really?  Everything I learn about myself allows me to take others that much further.

I invite you to see how I can facilitate your path – coping with life, relationships, healing wounds, changing beliefs, clearing traumas, exploring spirituality aend . .
